F A Q

Do you offer consultations or cake/dessert tastings?

Yes, of course! We encourage you to contact us to setup a personalized consultation, during which you’ll also have the opportunity to discuss design options that are best fit for you and your budget. Consultations are complimentary, but must be scheduled in advance for a specific date/time. Consults are 30-45 minutes in length, and we are able to accommodate 3-4 persons in our space. Cake sampling is available for $30 which includes 6 flavours of your choice. Payment must be made via eTransfer 2 days before your consult, along with sending a list of your flavour choices. Please bring along with you pictures of cake/dessert designs you like, outfit details, decor ideas, invitations, etc. to be use as inspiration for the cake.

When should we order our cake?

It is recommended to book your wedding cake minimum 5 – 6 months prior to your wedding date. It is never too early to book your wedding cake, especially if the wedding is during peak months, from April to October. For custom cakes, a minimum two week notice is required in most cases. During peak months, it’s recommended to book 3-4 weeks in advance to ensure the date is available. Please feel free to reach out to us with any last minute inquiries as we are sometimes able to accommodate those. Best to give us a call in this case.

How much cake do I need?

If you have a large variety of desserts, it is recommended to serve 40-50% of your total guest count. If you will be having few/no other desserts, then it’s recommended to get 70-80% of your total guest count. Keep in mind that everyone may not have cake or opt for another dessert. Only if you are serving cake as a plated dessert is it recommended to serve your total guest count.

How much do the cakes cost?

Cost varies depending on the complexity of the design, cake shape and size. Starting prices for cakes are available on the pricing page. Should these prices fit within your budget, please contact us to get a quote for a design you have in mind. Alternatively, you may schedule a consultation during which we can further discuss design and pricing details.

What is your payment policy?

We require a 50% deposit to reserve your event date, along with a signed contract and/or invoice. The remaining balance is due 2 weeks prior to the date of the event for weddings, and on day of for pickup orders. We accept exact cash and online eTransfer only. Please send eTransfers to info@skconfectionery.ca. Orders are not confirmed without a deposit payment.

What is your cancellation policy?

The deposit secures your spot in our calendar and thus is non-refundable and non-transferrable to other dates. Exceptions may be made on a case by case situation, and is entirely up to our discretion. If orders are cancelled with less than 14 days notice, the client is responsible for paying for any materials purchased or created for their order. Full payment will be required if cake is complete at the time of cancellation. If your event date is postponed by a couple of weeks, cakes can be picked up and frozen. Please contact us immediately should you need to cancel.

What is your late payment policy?

If final payment is not paid by the agreed upon date as stated on the contract/invoice, the contract/invoice will be voided. A $75 fee will apply to renew the contract or invoice, given that the date is still available. Some exceptions are made in extenuating circumstances or if we discussed and agreed on a different payment plan for you.

Are your cakes nut/gluten/dairy/egg free?

Our facility uses all these ingredients and cannot guarantee an allergen-free product. However, we do offer vegan and eggless options for all cakes and most desserts. Please inquire for more information. While some desserts/flavours may not have nuts, we cannot guarantee a product free of any nut traces. Clients agree to assume all responsibility by placing an order.

Could we get buttercream instead of fondant?

Our cakes are covered with buttercream regardless of whether you would like a fondant cake or not. Our fondant has a delicious marshmallow taste, and is less sweet than other brands. We encourage you to try the fondant and opt for a fondant cake as it offers the most crisp, clean finish, providing the best canvas for our custom designs. Buttercream options are available with limited design options. Please inquire for more information.

Do you provide delivery and setup?

We encourage you to allow us to deliver and setup wedding cakes and larger custom cakes to ensure safe transportation. Please inquire for specific delivery and setup charges. Should you choose to pickup the order, we are not liable for any damage to the order once it is handed over to you. Should any damage occur, there will be a fee charged to fix the products, should we be available to do so. Clients assume all responsibility for safe transportation and setup of cake once picked up, and assume all liability.

By ordering with SK Confectionery, all clients agree to the above terms, and any additional terms and conditions as outlined on the contract or invoice received. If you have any additional questions that have not been answered, or would like to inquire about a cake and/or desserts, please feel free to contact us.
